On 27 May 2026, Hungarian Caritas lunch attendees gatheredto mark Hősök Napja — Heroes' Day — observed each year on the last Sunday of May.

The occasion carried special meaning this year. Our long-awaited Memorial Stone has at last returned to the redeveloped Hungarian Club of SA Inc — an achievement made possible through the hard work of Club President Katalin Tóth and the Club’s executive team. Its first role was a fitting one: to receive a wreath in honour of our fallen heroes.

István DobozyMagyar Harcosok Bajtársi Köre (Hungarian Veterans' Brotherhood) Main Group Leader, delivered the commemoration address — in both Hungarian and English. He opened by extending special thanks to Katalin Tóth and her team for ensuring the Memorial was in place and ready for this occasion. Alongside the Hungarian and Australian flags, the flags of the Vitéz order and the Magyar Harcosok Bajtársi Köre were also present, marking the full ceremonial weight of the day.

His address reflected on the sacrifices of Hungarian soldiers across two World Wars and the 1956 Revolution, and on the enduring injustice of Trianon. His words carried a clear message for our community here in Australia: "We should not only want to remain, but also to stay together."

The wreath was laid at the Memorial Stone by Ákos Nagy (Karitász President), Katalin Tóth (Club President), and István Dobozy — a moment that brought together three pillars of our Adelaide Hungarian community in a shared act of remembrance. The ceremony concluded with the community singing the Himnusz (Hungarian National Anthem) together.

A heartfelt thank you to István, Katalin and Ákos and all who attended. The Memorial Stone now stands as a permanent reminder of who we are and where we come from.

Köszönjük mindenkinek a részvételt és a közös emlékezést.
