Celebrating Hungarian heritage and hospitality in Adelaide since 1965.
82 Osmond Terrace, Norwood.

Where we began

Our original premises at 82 Osmond Terrace, before redevelopment.

A community, from the beginning

The Hungarian Club of South Australia has been part of Adelaide's story since 6 August 1965. In those early years, it was a place where a community far from home could find familiar faces, share a meal, and keep something important alive.

In 1968, the Club found its permanent home at 82 Osmond Terrace, Norwood — a corner of Adelaide that would become inseparable from Hungarian life in this city for generations.

Over the decades, those rooms filled with the sounds of live music, the smell of slow-cooked goulash, and the laughter of families gathering to celebrate, remember, and belong. Goulash Nights, traditional dancing, cultural festivals, weddings, markets, Adelaide Fringe performances — the Club was many things to many people, but always with the same Hungarian warmth at its heart.

A new chapter

A new home.
The same heart.

After two and a half years of redevelopment, we reopened our doors in 2026 — same address, new chapter. The new premises on Osmond Terrace bring a spacious hall, modern clubrooms, and secure undercover parking.

We were delighted to welcome our members to our Opening Brunch on Saturday 2 May 2026 — with food from our new chef, Hungarian music, and a full room. The next chapter is well underway.

Life at the club

The table. The music. The night.

Our Goulash Nights have always been what brings people together — a full room, traditional food, and live music keeping the evening moving from the first course to last call. Some things never change.

Hungaria Café

Hungaria Café

Open Tuesday to Saturday on Osmond Terrace, the Hungaria Café brings genuine Hungarian cooking to the heart of Norwood. At the stove is Chef Attila Tóth — originally from Hungary, with years of experience cooking across Europe, the United States, and Australia.

Attila's food is rooted in tradition: slow-cooked classics, house-made comfort dishes, and seasonal specials, prepared with care and served with the kind of generosity that Hungarian hospitality is really known for.

The Café welcomes members, guests, and the wider community.

What we stand for

Why we’re here

The Club exists, above all, because of a shared sense of identity and belonging. Hungarian heritage is at its heart. New members come in through an existing member's nomination — if you don't know anyone yet, come along to an event first. That's usually how it starts.

Some things have changed. The building is new, the café is new, and the next sixty years are ahead of us. But what hasn't changed, and won't, is why we're here: the traditions, the table, and the people around it.
